Educating girls and empowering women in the Ghanzi province of Afghanistan

Ghanzi is one of the poorest regions in one of the poorest countries on the planet. Not surprisingly, this makes it increasingly difficult for girls to obtain an education and for women to obtain the resources necessary to become literate. The Khaled Hosseini Foundation works with Afghan Friends Network (AFN) to meet the unique educational needs of the women and girls of Ghanzi, Afghanistan through AFN’s Khurasan Learning Center.

Program goals:
  • Enable 800 girls to attend early morning and after-school programs, as well as special preparatory classes for standardized college entry examinations
  • Offer literacy and vocational training to 80 women
Key fact:
  • USD 50.00 allows a student to study for a whole year
