Serving Syrian refugee women and children on the Turkish-Syrian border by providing education and medical care

The United Nations Women’s Guild's Project Balsam opened a clinic in Antakya, a town near the border of Turkey and Syria in 2015. Turkish border towns and refugee camps have become safe havens for millions of Syrian refugee women and children. UNFCU Foundation funding will help the clinic provide much needed free-of-charge medical assistance to Syrian refugee women and children living in six villages in the region.

Program goals:
  • Provide medical care to Syrian refugee women and children, most of whom have not had access to medical services for the past five years
  • Organize Turkish language classes for young adults and women to find employment and create links with their local communities
  • Deliver basic educational services to Syrian refugee children
Key fact:
  • USD 200 covers the cost of Turkish language classes for a month
