UN Foundation's Girl Up Initiative

Working with communities in Liberia so that hardest-to-reach adolescent girls either have access to school, or to tools for how to run their own businesses

In partnership with UNICEF and the Government of Liberia, the UN Foundation Girl Up program in Liberia is providing training, mentoring, and counseling to empower the hardest-to-reach adolescent girls.

The program cultivates champions for girls' education. The champions will work with parents and teachers to increase school attendance for girls. Out-of-school girls receive training on how to run their own businesses and increase their earning potential.

Participants of the program have access to sensitive reproductive health information. Older adolescent girls are trained to act as sexual health educators for their younger peers.

Program goals:
  • Offer back-to-school paths for girls
  • Provide income generating business support for girls who are not in school
  • Create greater community dialogue on tough topics of violence against women and sexual health issues
Your donation of:
  • $100 will enable one girl to learn about reproductive heath and gain livelihood training
