Girl Up Initiative of UN Foundation

Protecting marginalized girls in India who are at risk of child marriage and adolescent pregnancy

UN Foundation, through its Girl Up initiative, partnered with UNFPA to support the Action for Adolescent Girls initiative in India.

This initiative utilizes targeted educational and life-skills building programs to prevent early marriages and unintended pregnancies. This includes classroom activities, the training of peer mentors, and high-level advocacy work that motivate and engage the community to support the girls' rights.

UNFCU Foundation funds will protect 1,000 adolescent girls' rights through Girl Up's support of UNFPA's Action for Adolescent Girls initiative.

Program goals:
  • Enhance adolescent girls' understanding of social skills to help delay marriage
  • Increase access to health information and education to prevent early pregnancy
  • Keep girls safe through an effective network of adolescent peer educators
