UN Foundation’s Girl Up Campaign

Supporting UNFPA’s Action for Adolescent Girls initiative in India

UN Foundation’s Girl Up supports the Action for Adolescent Girls initiative in India that is run by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). This initiative utilizes a combination of targeted educational programs to delay marriage and prevent early/ unintended pregnancy for the most marginalized girls in India. This includes classroom as well as high-level advocacy work that motivates the population to embrace the movement and support their girls.

UNFCU Foundation supports Girl Up in this initiative to help reach 13,000 adolescent girls in 2016 in the Salumber and Kherwara regions of Udaipur District in India, a region that covers 611 villages.

Program goals:
  • Set up Girl Up clubs in each village that address social and economic topics, including reproductive health, gender discrimination and gender-based violence
  • Develop Adolescent Days during which advocates will orient and sensitize members of the community
  • Select and train peer educators to mobilize the adolescent girls and help facilitate sessions
